Women's History Month Series with Rosie Phillips, Curation Sales Director at Permutive

Womens History Month By Rosie Phillips, Curation Sales Director at Permutive Published on March 31

I joined the realm of media back in 2011 having spent two years in East Coast US working in TV and film production on the set of ‘Chef’s Kitchen’. The reality of ‘cash in hand’ jobs and inconsistent money, propelled me towards considering a new vocation whereby there was still creative flair but in a more financially stable and consistent sphere. Upon returning to the UK with this vision in sight, I stumbled upon The Graduate Co. who suggested digital media sales. Being able to utilise my previous experience within an autonomous and largely sociable role felt like a natural move. The role in question was a Digital Account Executive for DMGT.

My career now fifteen years on has brought me to be fortunate enough to work within household name companies such as The Guardian, AutoTrader, eBay/ Gumtree, Netmums, LADbible amongst others. Whilst largely much of my experience until late has been publishers side, I have now been working with Permutive in the ad tech space, managing the Curation aspect of their business.

Panning the last decade and a half I have noticed a considerable shift in the treatment and value that women bring to the media ecosphere. Whereby in previous years the pay gap remained considerable, this seems to be reducing and the values, temperaments and skill sets we can bring are becoming considerably more appreciated. Having been a vocal advocate for female leadership and inspired by so many previous managers, this is an area where I aspire my own career path to follow.
