Tell us your career path before you were in TA
I sampled the jobs buffet, I was a Top Salesman (In my opinion) at Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse, then worked in a variety of jobs including customer services, account management and even a Field Engineer for Virgin Media then a Business Analyst.
From your personal experience what's the best thing about being in talent acquisition?
I know it's cliche, but the variety, of roles, stakeholders, challenges and the outcomes. It's such a feel good factor when you fill a vacancy with someone who wasn't really looking but is now thriving in their new role, then you help them hire for their team too!
Since you've been in TA, how have you seen it change?
I think the role of a TA Partner has changed and more is expected of them these days. No longer is your job to fill jobs. But it's to be a brand ambassador, have a personal brand, be a storyteller, solve internal problems around process and procedures. Be SME's of all technological advancements. They've also had to upskill themselves to keep up with additions like AI and GenAI
How do you see AI impacting the future of talent acquisition?
AI won't take Recruiters jobs. Recruiters who know how to use and leverage AI will take your job. It's going to remove the need for roles like TA Admins in the next 3-5 years in my opinion. But it's also going to automate and lot of mundane and repetitive tasks. This will give TA time back to be consultative and focus on having more conversations with candidates and stakeholders.
What advice would you give to job seekers today?
Be that 1%, of top candidates - always keep your CV live and up to date, ready to go at any moment, tailor your CV to roles that you absolutely want to apply to, don't "spray and pray" your CV, your network is your net worth, and don't DM Recruiters asking them to look at your CV and tell you what jobs you'd be good at. We're not Career Coaches, we've already got jobs to fill and simply don't have the capacity to review every CV that lands in our LinkedIn inbox.
Tell us a little about the company you hire for and what makes it so great?
Hired to help build and implement processes and deliver transformation hiring across data, engineering, product and technical roles whilst embedded best practices and establishing TA as a Centre of Excellence.
