Can you tell us about your journey into Adtech and what led you to where you are today?
I started in buying print media and was interested in the growing digital advertising space at the time. Once I got my first digital role I never looked back and further developed my career into Programmatic Specialism. I've worked across In House, Agency and Tech side over my career. Today I lead a global team and taking in the new challenges in our always changing industry.
What challenges, if any, have you faced as an LGBT+ professional?
I've never faced specific challenges as an LGBT+ Professional, I've been fortunate to work in very inclusive environments. I have had roles outside of AdTech when I was younger when I didn't feel comfortable coming out at work, but I've always been able to be open in the companies I've worked for across my digital media career.
Have you benefited from supportive employers, mentors or colleagues?
Supportive colleagues have been central to my positive experiences across my roles. In some cases it has been seeing colleagues who are open and comfortable at work to make me feel comfortable I can too. I've also benefited from having managers and mentors who have been either not concerned or an active ally to the LGBT+ community, they have supported my career as they would any other employee and encouraged my involvement with ERGs and other inclusive initiatives within the company.
Have you seen the Adtech industry become more inclusive during your career? In what ways?
I do think AdTech has become more inclusive. I've seen a increase in visibility and support networks.
I certainly see this around Pride. Although it may be seen as a 'lip service' in some instances, the simple acknowledgement of Pride Month from companies is a long way from when I started.
What advice would you give to the next generation of LGBT+ talent entering the workforce?
You don't owe anyone details about your personal life if you don't feel comfortable, but you will excel when you find an environment where you do feel you don't have to hide yourself.
Remember interviewing is a two way Street, make sure you ask questions about a company's culture to help understand if its a place you'd like to work.
Which LGBT+ individuals do you look up to and why? (doesn't need to be Adtech)
I look up to those I see have the confidence to bring their full self to work. This is what attracted me to my current role at DoubleVerify I could immediately see that culture in the people I met.
Specifically also Julie Eddlemon who when she joined DoubleVerify brought her full self to the role, her enthusiasm has always been infectious and the way she brings her authentic self to work is inspiring.
What does Pride Month mean to you personally?
Pride is a celebration of how far we've come and a time to reflect on what we may need next. Both as a community and individuals.
