About the Role
The Senior Programmatic Buying Specialist takes automated advertising campaigns to the next level by leveraging expertise in planning, executing, optimizing, and reporting. As a critical part of the Viant programmatic buying solution at Empower, this role goes beyond the basics of campaign management, leading strategy discussions, designing innovative testing scenarios, and mentoring less experienced team members.
The Senior Specialist thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces change, and has a strong analytical and data-driven mindset. This individual is equally comfortable working behind the scenes or directly with clients, providing thought leadership and solutions tailored to campaign goals.
Responsibilities:
- Develop programmatic plan recommendations from campaign briefs, including audience targeting, contextual opportunities, and media mix strategies.
- Activate approved campaigns across multiple Demand Side Platforms (DSPs), ensuring flawless execution.
- Continuously optimize campaigns, designing and implementing innovative testing scenarios to improve performance.
- Provide insights-driven reporting that highlights optimization results and actionable learnings for clients and internal teams.
- Partner with internal teams, including digital media planners, analytics, and search specialists, to drive cross-functional success.
- Lead performance evaluations by pulling detailed reports and interpreting data to shape future strategies.
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovative buying approaches, sharing knowledge with the team.
- Participate in client meetings as needed, providing strategic recommendations and addressing performance inquiries.
- Mentor junior team members, providing guidance on best practices and career development.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

- Strong organization and time management skills, able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical mindset with a passion for numbers and testing, paired with the ability to communicate insights effectively.
- Proficient in navigating ambiguity and proactively identifying opportunities for growth.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings to internal teams and clients.
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience with programmatic buying platforms such as Viant, Basis, or similar DSPs.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with other analytics tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and measure testing scenarios to inform optimization strategies.
- Experience working with Data Management Platforms (DMPs) is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a team is a plus.
